  1. Late to the party, but ive always had the question of how these shapes are named. For example: why is position 1 called “position 1” if it relates to either the Em or G chord shapes in the caged system? It always mixed me up how this shape is called postion 1 but played as the 3rd position of CAGED (C – 1st, A – 2nd, G – 3rd etc). That being said, i also see the same shapes be given different numbers for names depending on where you look and it just gets confusing

  2. This is exactly what those music courses you have to pay for teach you when they say “learn the neck with confidence”

  3. I've been playing guitar for almost 10 years and shown minimal improvement. That was genuinely until I came across this video. You sir are a king. Thank you.

  4. Oh my God! Such an amazing, well elaborated and very easy to understand lesson!!! A truly inspiring and motivation to study and understand what are we playing! I want to learn more from you! Thank you so much for this!

  5. Excellent presentation on the Pentatonic Scale. All 5 shapes, very well explained. The presenter is calm and articulate. Thumps UP!
By the way I want that jam track. How do I get it?

  6. Hi, I paid to Stitch Methods channel a couple bucks and was sent the 5 forms of the pentatonic scales.
Form #1 shows- Low E=1,4/A=1,3/D=1,3/G=1,3/B=1,4/E=1,4. Do teachers use the same forms and call them different form numbers? He typed a sentence at the bottom of the 5 forms that read, They all Click together, Go slow and make sure you can see how they all stack together. Thanks for your lesson.

  7. How am I supposed to get my index finger on the 2 and the pinky on the 5 is it while it’s my first day or have I just crippled fingers

  8. i’m having trouble understanding something. So i understand the caged system but in this case we are playing the “E” shape starting on the second fret but it’s in the key of G so my brain is confused, can someone explain how u know in which key you are?

  9. I've been all over the place trying to grasp and truly understand all the basic scales etc, I learned through Brett Papa's lesson about how to actually use scales and chords and how they are connected but then through Joe Satriani I got to know more about how flexible it can be, however, I knew it all must connect in some way and I was struggling hard to grasp how all scales shapes fit into one another and I was searching for which shape is 1 and 2 etc. so my brain can name these shapes with numbers and can like "cast them at will" onto the fretboard, however after searching for names of these scales things were conflicting – and I stumbled upon your video and VOILA!! you explain so very well how even minor and mayor differ!! I always thought the difference is in shapes but it is actually in accentuation of the specific notes within the same shape – this is amazing!! at the very end you show what you can do once you have all these down and connected and I just replicated what you did and it is absolute freedom of what you can play once you understand the scales and shapes – just knowing songs note for note doesn't cut it, however, it can teach you a lot about what a certain artist used regarding technique. Thank you very much for these lessons!! Marvellous !

  10. You said one thing in this video that finally made the scale click for me. You stated leave the 4 and 7 out. The 4th is the C note and the 7th is the octave. What I don’t get on the E minor scale is it the same? Leaving the 4 and octave out? What are the 5 notes in the e minor pentatonic scale? I think if that is emphasized it would be easier to understand like you did in the G major scale.

  11. I'm just starting out learning guitar but this video has been the most informative n helpful video about pentatonics ive seen thank you, very much <3

  12. There are many scales patterns
Which one to pick . Confused with so many patterns . please help me out .
Major, minor and Pentatonic scales …we have many patterns in each scale .which finger pattern to choose.

    You make awesome videos

  13. Thank for your video,I've been kinda stuck in a rutt for a while as far as solos go this has opened a door a for me. Now bells are going off again, up until now I've just improvised but now I have a solid foundation to build on and memorize. Thank you again!!!!

  14. hey man, i think this was great but it could have been even better if you full explained how the different chord shapes imposed on top of each shape fits into the CAGED system

  15. You have done a great job.. thanks for the clarity brought out in playing the strings rather than just giving the theory.. special thanks for the last 2 minutes 👍👍

  16. Playing guitar for 17 years and ive progressed more in the past 2 days after watching this than the past 10 years! Now today I have a quarter of a bluesy rock song that jams written and i come from metal. What a week what a week

  17. Hi Nate, have been playing guitar on and off for years , self taught. Just wanted to say thanks so much for this lesson. Always wanted to learn how to improv effectively and could never really find anything that could explain it this clearly. Wish YouTube was around when I started out! Also now feeling a bit disappointed about all the time I’ve neglected playing…Cheers man!

  18. Thank you so much for this video, I've been playing guitar for a few years now but al would do was play chords and i never tried anything beyond that. This video really helped me understand more about the pentatonic scale. Thank you so much.
